I live holding on to a dream. A dream where I wish everyone had a dream. A dream to change the world that we live in, full of atrocities and harmful trends. A world that people chose. A world that turned into a cesspit rather than a place full of ebullient people. Where people waltz as though nothing is happening. Where people adore and worship perfection, unaware of the kind of pressure impacted on those with different kinds of insecurities. A world where people choose silence over voice. Silence in matters of injustice. A world where some are left bereft. Bereft of food thus becoming emaciated. Bereft of education and an aura of tranquility. I have a dream for my world. A dream that coos in my ears at night. “Make me better,” it says.
I wish everyone had this dream. Because only then will we be able to unwrap the silence around our bodies and speak about matters affecting us. Matters of injustice. For I believe it is silence that brought the Rwandan genocide, the instability in Sudan, the 2007-2008 post election violence in Kenya and the 2018 violence in Ethiopia. And if we choose to live as though there were a microphone tucked under our tongues , Africa and the world in general, would be at a better place.
I dream of a continent where we take more of what we deserve. Where we start appreciating ourselves and show our capabilities. A continent where everyone would look at with envy and admiration of how far we’ve come. A continent free of corruption and greed with leaders to look up to. Leaders with so much of a human heart and nature. Empathic leaders. Leaders of Africa. Africa, where home is. Home where charity begins. It all starts at home. A better Africa, a better world. With this, I envision a world free of racism and ethnicity. Because it takes courage and self-love to build such a world. A world where people would not be defined by colour, economic status or origin. A world where we’re one. A world free of violence. A world full of dreams because dreamers make great steps. That world is us. That world is me and you. Let’s put our dreams into actions.
