Your shivering voice when you are supplicating to Allah in the middle of the night…
Your oft-repeated supplications, that you make at every moment, and at every opportunity…
The tears that roll down your cheeks while you weep silently on your pillow… fearing that someone might hear you!
All this will not go in vain with Allah.
There is no suffering that will last forever, and there is no state or condition that is permanent. This is the Sunnah (Established way) of Allah which has occurred with those who have passed on before us. And never will we find in the way of Allah any change.
وَتِلْكَ الْأَيَّامُ نُدَاوِلُهَا بَيْنَ النَّاسِ
{And these days [of varying conditions – some good and some not so good] We alternate among the people}
[Surah aal-`Imraan (3): 140]
There is nothing permanent on this Earth. The well-being and good health that the people are enjoying, all that is temporary. One day a person is healthy and the next day he may fall sick. A moment ago, he was alive, and now death has overtaken him. One day a person is rich and the next he loses everything. As time passes by, everything changes, except Allah. Every day the sun rises and sets. The moon changes its phases throughout the month. The day is overtaken by the night and the night is overtaken by the day. Everything changes, except Allah.
Your loss is temporary, your gain is temporary, and your life on Earth is temporary.
Do not let your grief consume you and make you despair, neither should you let your happiness make you too proud and arrogant. All these states are temporary and each condition comes with its own teachings and lessons. Upon you is to be patient when faced with any of the two situations. And more patience is needed when going through a difficult phase.
Upon you is to be patient, and know that what Allah has decreed will come to pass. There is no one who can change the decree of Allah. Whatever you see as evil and harmful, is in fact a means of goodness towards you, which will raise your status in the Hereafter. Hidden in between the calamity that you suffer is a source of reward for you from Allah that you do not see!
The pain that you suffer is the door from which Allah provides for you!
Remember, with these trials and calamities, Allah wants to test you, test your Imaan, test your trust in Him and test your resolution. No calamity persists and no blessing last forever.
The way we are patiently and eagerly waiting to meet Allah and see His glorious face on the day of Recompense, we should also be patient with the Sunnah (Established way) of Allah and with what Allah has decreed for us.
But perhaps you hate a thing and it is good for you, and perhaps you love a thing and it is bad for you. And Allah Knows, while you know not.
-Surah Al-Baqarah, Ayah 216
