The other day mom went shopping and came back with these cute red bowls and she said “I just couldn’t resist. I saw them last week and left them, but when I saw them this time I just couldn’t leave them again.”
I laughed and told her, “Mom, knowing you, you will use them right now. In a few minutes, I will see salad in that bowl and you know I am right.” She laughed, then said “Tilyan, life is too short.”
Life is too short
Since then, this phrase has been ringing in my head. It is definitely not the first time hearing this phrase, it is one of her favourite phrases, and I am sure at some point, we must have either read it or heard it somewhere.
It got me thinking, life is indeed, too short. Right now, we are in times of uncertainty, and I can’t help but think of the times that I used to complain about being busy, and right now, just because I can’t go out, I feel like I have nothing to do.
So, this article is about how short life is. Yes it is, short.
Why? You might ask? Because while social distancing, I realized that there are so many things that we tend miss out on, because we are too afraid.
Life is too short, to allow people to stomp and crush your dreams. Too short, to let anyone affect what your dream is. I mean, let us focus on our dreams and let others focus on their dreams right? Why do we tend to feel the need to crush a dream? On the other hand, why do we allow other people to affect our dream?
Life is too short, to allow one person to make your life miserable. There will always be someone out there who will not agree with you, who will have a different opinion, a different thought process. But why do we still allow them to enter our minds and let them make our lives miserable?
Life is too short, to try and please everyone, not everyone will see life the way you do, we have all lived differently, that is why I say we see “Life, in different colours.”
Again, life is too short to hold grudges; it is an unnecessary thought weighing us down all the time. I am not saying that because life is short that we become best friends with the people who don’t see the best in us, but we can let go of the grudge, you see, at some point, we might need one another, what goes around, comes around.
Life is too short, to wait for someone to make you happy. You know, that power lies in your hands, don’t put that power is someone else’s hands. You are the only one who can make yourself happy.
Again, life is too short to stay in toxic relationships, be it a friendship or a marriage. Leave! Move on! You deserve better! You deserve a friend or a spouse who respects and loves you for who you are.
Life is too short, for you not to make memories, experiences and travel the world. Take time for yourself, create memories, learn cultures and have fun! As you see, Life is too short.
We don’t know when we will take our last step, say our last word, drink our last sip, swallow our last morsel of food or even breathe our last.
Remember, life is too short to put your life on hold, because of other people. Either what they will say or do…it is better to try than tell yourself “I wish I did this when I was….”
As I always say “You owe it to yourself to make your dreams come true. You have to try.”
I wrote this, not to scare anyone, but because I have realized we tend to live our lives according to what someone will say, or even what we think someone will say.
Take life as it is, be grateful for the ups, and know that we will survive the down, don’t stress, do things that make you happy and enjoy your life!
