I would like to stay here
at the silence in this prostration.
let me draw back my limbs and press this face down for
You.
I am content in the surrender of sajdah,
where even sadness smiles at how close I come before a God.
O gardener of love I am your flower,
lost
in the clasp of a seed.
coax what wisdom you have taught men
From your vault of knowledge,
and let this tongue
rise
like shoots into leaves
from the nourishment that comes with praising
You.
All hail the lord of water,
who cleanses and purifies,
washing all manner of stains and leaving only purity behind.
I could never shimmer
if I was away from
You.
*
My lord let me stay here,
Away from reckless pride.
Time compels me to stand still
like everything else you have planted
and grown
and nurtured petals from its hearts,
so my soul could be a bloom among the canopy of your worshipers.
*
Your love is a light,
unhinged and relentless,
And I want nothing more than to stay here,
on the foundation of every temple raised for you,
on the earth that holds gardens you have raised,
with the wind and her winged creatures,
and flowers
and moons,
prostrating for
You.
*
Nothing from this world or the next
would come for me
except that they will find me
close to my God.
