It begins with the beauty of your brain and its awesome systems. Your brain has been fashioned in a way such that, every process it does, it does only to please you. Within these systems, is one termed the Ascending Reticular Activating System, which aside from being responsible for determining whether you’re an intro or extrovert, among others, it also creates the filters that are known to make ‘the how’ of your life view point. The perfume effect is one good example.
When you apply your perfume overtime, you realize that after sometime, you can’t smell it on you even though everyone be complimenting you. It’s because your brain figured that since there are other better and new smells to help you look out for and discover, this used one is luggage to its efficiency in serving you. So it filters it out.
This is why you also cannot identify the scent of your house. Ask your guests.
So why should this matter to you? Because the environment that surrounds you everyday, like the perfume, shapes the filters you have and thus, how you view life. So if you are constantly surrounded by people who are always complaining and base their together time on nagging about life,
Guess what,
Your brain, in the innocence of trying to make you happy, creates filters that give you superpowers in instantly identifying points to nag on about anything that comes your way. And to emphasize, the brain has no capacity for morality or negative perception. This is why you can develop habits that can kill you and also why kids do exactly what you tell them not to. So instead of telling them not to eat on the couch, tell them to eat at the table. Make your instructions positive. And watch the magic happen.
When they say you are your 5 closest friends, they are not just being mystical and elderly level wise. It’s science.
Your environment has shaped who you are today. And those people who are always happy and all perfect, all day everyday, majority of them may be genuinely fake people.
But those who understood this, knew that there was a way to re-define their filters, and did exactly that.
