Do we ever give it a thought as to how many years of suffering a person might have tolerated before getting in to a state of depression? And even then it can be left undiagnosed while the suffering continues, gets worse and can even lead to suicidal thoughts and maybe even death.
How many girls and guys out there try to be brave but deep down are struggling to keep their sanity. From being molested to getting raped to being rejected and treated like trash to losing and failing at work to having mocked at for being fat and ugly and so on; always trying to get back up after falling over and over again until it stops, and it will.
Anxiety experienced from these situations can be so extreme to a point where they might be looked up to as being arrogant and self-centred or being extravagant and outgoing. Every person has their own way of dealing with it making the diagnostic even harder in order to seek help and guidance.
Talking about it makes them remember; it makes them sad, worried, tired…so they revert to things like being either completely ignorant or extremely violent. It’s like a defence mechanism to deal with their stress and its accompaniments. We might think of them as ruthless or introverted but they really aren’t who they truly are. From within these people are the rarest of gems waiting to be mined and explored. Their true self within was once a lively person full of life but now all they see is darkness with a ray of light at the end. A ray of light signifying hope, hope that one day it shall be okay. Maybe it will?
That girl sitting on the edge of a tall building contemplating on her life choices doesn’t need to be told off. She needs to be shown hope, love and affection. She needs someone to acknowledge her and to support her as she moves nearer towards that ray of light. That’s all she needs and once she feels safe in your arms, she shall touch the moon.
That guy who thinks he failed at everything and gets judged for his actions, the guy who fears his goals just needs someone to say “I believe in you”. He needs to be allowed to take time to think and reflect instead of being told to do this and that. This here will be everything for him and once he feels understood, he shall conquer even mountains.
So let us take a step to heal those who suffer in silence, instead of creating more concrete walls for them, by simple understanding and reflecting upon one’s every action with great closeness and details. Mental health matters and can be achieved by all through all.
